The Historical Association, open to the public on Sundays 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Hartman School to view the exhibit, “THE BEACON THAT GUIDES US HOME: South Haven’s Lighthouse 1903-2010”. Artwork by local area K-9 students.
As the Historical Association is deeply committed to the education and enrichment of the community’s children, they are collaborating with the SHPS and St. Basil elementary art teachers, Cathy Seggie and Sarah Rydecki, to create a children’s component for this exhibit.
The K-5 students have been creating their own renditions of South Haven’s lighthouse using a variety of media from watercolor to collage. One of the children’s pieces will become the Historical Association’s poster for 2011. In addition to the poster winner, five more students will have their artwork featured on the Association’s annual note cards.
The opening for this exhibit will take place on Saturday, May 28 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at Hartman School, located at 355 Hubbard St. The student’s artwork will be on display in the northeast gallery at Hartman until the end of June. At that time, it will move downtown, where it will be displayed in one of the major storefronts for the rest of the summer.
The Historical Association will be open to the public on Sundays starting May 29 from 2:00-4:00 p.m.
