South Haven’s Lake View Cemetery is one of the most scenic and interesting cemeteries in Southwest Michigan. The landscape is lovely, with rolling hills, magnificent old trees and a wealth of beautiful gravestones.

Many of our earliest pioneers & entrepreneurs are interred here, including the families of J. R. Monroe, Clark Pierce, Wilbur & Amanda Hale, A. S. Dyckman, H. W. Williams, Uzziah Conger, and many more. Each grave has its own intriguing story -our town’s longest tenured lighthouse keeper, James Donahue, the first woman doctor, Marion Low, lumber baron, John Mackey, photographer, Nanna Brown.
The cemetery boasts a large GAR plot presided over by a beautifully sculpted statue of a Union soldier designed by W. B. Thompson. Additionally, Medal of Honor recipient and Civil War veteran, William H. Wilcox is buried here.
Lake View Cemetery is an incredible repository of South Haven’s rich history. It provides a beautiful walk on a nice day, as well as an interactive history lesson. If you haven’t visited, take time to wander through!
