The Historical Association of South Haven (HASH) is sponsoring a poetry, vignettes, and art images contest to support “Save the Light,” the South Haven lighthouse restoration project. Items submitted to this contest will be printed in a chapbook entitled, Lighting our Harbor, Preserving our Past. One winner will be chosen to receive a $100 prize.
Submission: Deliver or mail two final copies of your piece/s. Prepare one copy with your name and contact information, and one copy without your name for the judges. All pieces must be about some aspect of the South Haven Lighthouse, but could extend to subjects like fishing on the pier, the lighthouse keepers, etc.
Works may be submitted electronically to: thirstypoet@gmail.com. However, to qualify the entry fee must be mailed to the address below.
Fee: Entry fee is $5 for up to two entries. Checks should be made out to HASH. By submitting work, artists agree that their work/s may be published in the chapbook for no remuneration. The chapbooks will be sold as part of the fundraiser. Author credit will be given to each published piece and the author will retain rights to his/her work beyond this use.
Due Date: Entries must be received by March 23, 2015.
Prize: The contest will be judged by language and art educators, and the top twenty-five works will be selected for publication. The winning entry will receive $100, one copy of the chapbook and two tickets to the “fundraising kickoff” at The South Haven Yacht Club May 7th. The winner will share his/her work with the audience as a highlight of the event. Creators of the runner-up entries will also be recognized at the kickoff.
Address: Lighthouse Chapbook Entry 308 Kalamazoo St. South Haven, MI 49090.
